Water

Plan on a gallon of water a day to survive. You need to plan how you are going to get water, clean water for drinking. Not Bathing! I have had people ask me about bathing. Drinking water comes first. You could could survive on less water in the begining but eventually you will need around a gallon a day. If you store it you will soon learn that it will run out, so you will need to look for water else where. Make sure you know how to sanitize your water before you drink it. You will need to keep the water from getting contaminated too. You could end up getting sick or worse getting a disease. If you find a place to bathe later, do it down stream from your drinking water.

 

Sanitation

Sanitation Is very important. Without it disease will be rampant. Remember, you most likely won't have a doctor available, and even worse there won't be medication. You need to be very clean with the water you are going to drink, so keep it in a safe place. If you find water like a stream or lake, try to keep the area clean.

 

Find an area for defecation away from your water supply.

This area should be far from where you will be and the hole deep. The hole should also be far from any water source as well. It should be big enough to for everyone to go more than once a day. fresh dirt should be thrown over it multiple times a day. This will prevent contamination from the feces.

 

Methods of water purification

There are a number of ways you can purify water. I would take the time to learn these ways because one day the tablets and filters will run out. However, I would use what I had first. One way is to boil water, and the most effective. If you dont have something to boil it in, you will always be able to find something. There is enough garbage in the woods from people leaving stuff behind. A can will work. You will be amazed at how resourceful you become. Another way is to filter it through your clothing. You will want to eliminate as much contaminates as possible. You could also combine these steps. Charcoal is also good for water purification. You will be able to get that from a fire.
